Facilities built of the future

You’ll find the very latest hardware and software keeping our courses up to speed, along with dedicated spaces where digital thinkers thrive, including our extra high-powered gaming centre and Digital Investigation Lab, just like those used for computer forensics by law enforcement.

Cyber Security

Cyber University of the Year

USW has been named Cyber University of the Year for four consecutive years at the National Cyber Awards 2019 – 2022 and finalists again in 2023. We’re also the only university in Wales, and one of only seven in the UK, to be named an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education by the National Cyber Security Centre.

Our students learn about Cyber Security and Digital Forensics in a hands-on way, with the curriculum underpinned with cutting-edge practices that are aligned with professional and industry standards. Taught by experts in their field, our students also benefit from being able to study for additional industry certification. We offer a range of courses and learning environments, from the traditional campus-based degrees, to our Cyber Security Academy that works directly on ‘live briefs’ from industry using specialist cyber security software and facilities.

National Cyber Security Academy at USW is one of the CISCO accredited academies in Wales offering Certification Courses. We have certified staff and the qualified instructors to deliver these professional training programs to our students and to industry.

Extra certification

To enhance your employability, extra certification is available that is specific to each specialist area. This means you can gain industry-recognised certificates as well as your degree.

Our state-of-the-art labs emulate those used in industry and allow you to analyse digital files and networks, investigate threats and vulnerabilities, and manage responses to incidents.
