CUTTING EDGE EQUIPMENT
USW Fashion students have a modern and spacious environment to work in that is tailored to them and supports their learning and development throughout the course. Specialist facilities include: cutting edge design software, industrial sewing machines, specialist machines and steam presses, a variety of inclusive dress stands including male, female and children, simulated retail shopfronts, laser cutting and 3D printing facilities, as well as a fully equipped production workshop.
The fashion floor also features a creative space where students can meet to collaborate, work, host meetings, network and relax.
COLLABORATION
USW collaborates with key players in the fashion industry; our collaborations are with both national and international brands including Ellesse, Cotapxi, Palladium, Size? and Givenchy. These projects focus on real issues, opportunities and challenges facing the industry such as sustainability, ethics, the metaverse and digital clothing.
INDUSTRY LINKS
Our industry links provide students with real opportunities to solve problems and learn from professionals. All students engage in industry placements as part of their course to gain experience of the business in real life. Previous placements include Givenchy and Vivienne Westwood, and many of our students choose to undertake internships overseas.
STYLE AND CULTURE TRIPS
Style and culture trips are an exciting option to enhance your studies, and recent visits have taken our students to see Paris, New York, Japan, London, Copenhagen and Berlin.
We are also affiliated with The British Fashion Council, which means our students have opportunities to visit India as part of a fully funded trip.
CARDIFF FASHION WEEK
We are education partners with Cardiff Fashion Week and will be presenting Wales’ first Digital Fashion Catwalk in 2024 at our Cardiff campus. Cardiff Fashion Week celebrates fashion and retail and is also a platform for our students to showcase their final-year projects. Business partners, the media and public are invited to attend the week-long series of fashion showcases, catwalks and celebrations.
